What we collect
A plain-English summary of the data ITMO collects, why, and the service providers involved. Not a substitute for the full privacy policy.
We collect as little as we can get away with, and we don't sell it. This is the friendly summary. The Privacy Policy is the authoritative version.
When you report
- The visibility state you picked
- The hexagon for your location and a GPS accuracy number (we don't receive or store your raw coordinates with the report). See location privacy for how big the hexagons are.
- A timestamp
- An optional photo, with EXIF/GPS metadata removed (JPEG and PNG only)
If you make an account
- Your email address
- Profile details you choose: display name, username, optional bio, profile photo
- Your communication preferences (newsletter and feature emails)
Technical stuff
- The anonymous device token described in anonymous vs. account, plus coarse device context from your user agent (platform, browser, OS)
- Standard request logs (time, IP, user agent, URL) for security and debugging. Daily application logs are rotated after 14 days.
- Anonymous device records that never did anything are purged after 30 days.
Analytics and providers
- iOS app: anonymized product analytics (screens visited, actions taken) through PostHog, and crash reports through Sentry.
- Website: Fathom Analytics (cookie-free), PostHog (cookie-free, pageviews and defined events only), and Microsoft Clarity (anonymized session insights, uses cookies).
- Other providers: Mapbox (map tiles), Cloudflare (CDN and DDoS protection), and Loops (transactional email).
None of the website analytics include hexagons, raw coordinates, usernames, or things you typed.
What we don't do
We don't sell your personal information and don't share it with third parties for advertising.
Your rights
You can ask for access, correction, deletion, portability, or to restrict or object to how your data is used. Email privacy@isthemountainout.com, or see deleting your account.
ITMO is not directed at children under 13.
Location privacy
Your house will not show up on the ITMO map. Here is how big the hexagons are on web and iOS, what we store, and what happens to photo metadata.
Deleting your account and data
How to permanently delete your ITMO account, what gets erased, and why your anonymized reports stay on the map archive.
