Webcams
See current snapshots from webcams around Mt. Rainier right in ITMO, and how fresh the pictures are.
Sometimes you want proof from a camera, not a person. ITMO pulls in still images from webcams around the mountain so you can see for yourself.
What you get
A list of active cameras with their latest snapshot, plus a detail view for each. Both the web app (app.isthemountainout.com) and the iOS app have them. The iOS app also lets you submit a report straight from a webcam view.
How fresh is it?
These are still photos, not live video. We fetch a new frame about as often as each camera captures one (around every 15 minutes by default). If a camera drops offline or freezes, we just pick up the next good frame when it's back.
Webcam reports
Reports sent from a webcam have a few extra rules: the sun has to be up at the mountain, and each camera has its own cooldown, as does each device. If one's blocking you, the app says so.
Every frame gets kept
We save the historical frames, which is what powers the Time Machine.
Know a good camera?
We only need a public URL that returns a fresh still image (JPEG or PNG) every time it's requested. No streams, no logins. Reach out through Contact us in the iOS app or see the FAQ.
Widgets and sharing
Put the mountain on your Home or Lock Screen with the free ITMO status widget, plus the Super Watcher streak widget and share cards.
