What is Is The Mountain Out?
ITMO is a crowdsourced map that answers one question, is Mt. Rainier visible right now, using quick reports from people who can see it.
Welcome to the most PNW-y website you've ever seen.
Is The Mountain Out? (ITMO for short) answers one question: is Mt. Rainier visible from where people are standing right now? The answer comes from the community. When someone looks up and sees (or doesn't see) Tahoma, they tap a button. We turn those taps into a live map.
Why this exists
No single source can tell you whether the mountain is out from your spot. A forecast can guess. A webcam shows one angle. A neighbor with a window knows for sure. ITMO is that neighbor, multiplied.
It started with one guy tweeting on his way to work whenever the mountain was out. The community grew, the notifications piled up, and eventually the watching needed a proper home. ITMO is a side quest from Rainier Watch Supply Co., our apparel company out of the Pacific Northwest, built by two brothers in their spare time.
